The blade design is very well thought out, with the thickness carried through to the robust yet sharp edge, which remains durable after many rounds of chopping through chicken and meat bones. While most people would probably think that traditional riveted handle designs are more "premium", in this application the larger molded non slip handle design and larger bolster of the 4 Star line make this the superior choice for a meat clever.
Gets the job done. Cuts through beef, pork and chicken bones effortlessly. Also great to chop tons of onion, celery and carrots for mirepoix. This cleaver is exceptionally strong, and holds an edge for long periods of time, which has not been my experience with my previous cleaver.Made with Zwilling special formula steel, rugged and reliable. This is the last cleaver I will need to purchase.
I am very pleased with this cleaver. Too many cleavers rely on size and weight to force their way through bone and meat. This one relies on quality of material. The forged German blade is sharpened to the perfect angle. The quality of the steel keeps it sharp for a long time and is easy to maintain. The handle is very comfortable and the texture gives me confident in my grip while using it.
I'm writing this review after watching my husband go to town on the ribs he wanted to smoke. It scared me a bit but he had always wanted a meat cleaver so this is the one that was recommended. First of all... IT IS HEAVY, but I think that's the point, it has cut thru chicken bones like they were styrofoam, and judging by the smile on his face did some serious work on those rib bones. The Four star knives have always been the best , this has now been added to the collection!
I enjoy having the right tools for the kitchen job so I'm glad I have my cleaver for those times I want to cut up a chicken or chop larger cuts of meat. It also has come in handy for melons and harder vegetables like squash. Because it is forged it feel sturdy using it for these hefty cutting tasks. Like all Four Star knives this one will retain its sharp edge longer than other knives due to the high quality steel.

Forged German stainless steel feels toe-balanced upon "swinging"...which is great when having to cleave a lot. The handle sits in palm well..no slippage.
I love using this cleaver to get through all different kinds of meat and the more weight of it make it easier. The handle is so comfortable and I can get a good grip on the knife so that I feel very secure.
This cleaver can get through meat, bone, tendons, really anything. It is made from German Special Formula Steel, also forged from one piece of steel so durable for a lifetime. It is also ice hardened so blade will stay sharper for a longer period. The handle is comfortable and lightweight, a nice option compared to other heavy handle knives.
Perhaps my expectations were off, but I was looking for a heavy cutting implement to make my way through very heavy gourds and bone. The edge seemed dull compared to my Chef's knife (my go to standard). The Chef's actually works better and provided better control.
